Who were your ancestors? 🕯️

We remember our grandmothers and grandfathers, keep old photographs, and sometimes even know the names of the villages they came from. But what came before? Who are these people in the old pictures, where did they live, what did they do, and what was their life like?

At the lecture, we will talk about how to reconstruct your family's history. We will start gathering family stories and memories, look at photographs, and explore archival documents. Using specific examples, we will show how much fascinating material can be found even in a family history you thought you knew well.

You will learn:

•         where to begin searching for your ancestors;
•         what information can be found in archives and how to work with archival documents;
•         why family stories do not always match what we read in the sources;
•         how far back you can go when studying your family's history;
•         whether it is possible to find information about ancestors if they were peasants;
•         how a family's story comes together from individual documents and facts.

🔹The lecture is led by Katerina Mikhailova – historian, genealogist, head of the "RODNIK" project.
